Rest is essential. It should not be an optional leftover activity. Work and rest are actually partners - the better you are at resting, the better you will be at working.
Here are some tips for how to rest your mind:
1. Practice acceptance
You can’t control everything or do everything all at once. Chances are, you simply won’t finish everything on your to-do list by the time you want to. And that is OK. Practicing acceptance means you can start to accept yourself and manage your own expectations.
2. Rethink the narrative
If you don't finish something work on switching your reaction from "I've failed" or "I've let myself down" to "That’s fine, I'll get it done tomorrow“
This helps you finish your day in a more restful state of mind.
3. Be intentional
Practice setting your mind to doing something, such as resting, and doing it. Follow this up by asking yourself if you are actually doing it “Is my mind at rest?" When doing this try focusing on your breathing too.
4. Take in your surroundings
Taking note of your surroundings enables you to be present in the here and now. Notice the sounds and colours around you. Notice how things feel. Notice how the air feels around you.
5. Focus on you
Do something that truly allows you to "just be" and this doesn’t include watching TV or scrolling through Social Media. Find something that allows you to escape the real world such as Pilates, journaling, meditation, cooking.
