City Way Health discuss Hypermobility in youngsters and what to look out for

Hypermobolity Case Study

Our patient Sofia came to us recently with persistent ankle pain - and for a youngster we knew there was something more to it. She had experienced a few falls and twists which seemed to take longer than expected to clear up.

Weexamined Sofia’s ankles, legs and hips during her appointment to establish the root cause.

After careful examination we are able to determine that Sofia is actually suffering with Hypermobile ankles.

Hypermobility is where you can move some or all your joints further than average and affects around 30% of the population.

In Sofias case this lead to instability, which increased her risk of sprains, trips, and falls. Hypermobile ankles can also cause feet to roll inward, giving a flat-footed appearance.

We have given Sofia a programme of simple short daily exercises to help strengthen the area and help prevent further damage.
